VP Commission on Diversity and Inclusion

(Co-chairs and members invited by commission liaisons)

This commission's work, jointly undertaken by campus and community stakeholders, will be dedicated to improving UNLV's diversity and inclusion efforts, broadly considered. This commission will also, on an annual basis, identify priorities as they pertain to any or all aspects of diversity and inclusion, including quality of work life issues, for integration into the campus-wide Diversity Action Plan. Because of the equity compliance role associated with the Office of the Vice President of Planning, and the diversity education role aligned with the Office of the Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion, both offices will serve as liaisons to the Commission.

The commission's agenda will emerge from its members and co-chairs, from campus and community stakeholders (individuals and groups), and from our offices. How the commission's work is organized and completed will be largely at the discretion of its members and co-chairs, though the liaisons will strongly encourage the commission to form sub-committees, co-chaired by commission members, to examine issues related to race, sex/gender, sexual orientation, disability, and religion/secularity—all broadly considered—in greater depth. The term of service for commission co-chairs is two years, and for commission members it is three years. This will provide staggered stability and continuity of attention to the very important issues of diversity and inclusion at UNLV.
